There is speculation that the future of home media will be based through digital means but studios like Disney are working hard to keep this from happening through interactive features available on their new Blue Ray movies. A prime example of this is the upcoming 50th Anniversary Sleeping Beauty Blue Ray DVD movies that will use BD Live to connect to the internet allowing for a multitude of disc related features that include a messenger that will allow friends to talk to each other while watching the movie. Think Xbox Live when a friend messages you and it pops up in front of whatever you are doing as an alert. Parents can also program in timed messages to give their kids reminders such as do your homework after the movie.
Other features include title related trivia and behind the scenes access. BD Live is a cool feature that only Blue Ray movies can say they are part of making another reason to switch over to the format. BD Live is free and works as long as a wireless connection is available.
