Over the holidays I had my first experience watching blue ray movies on an HDTV that was huge. This television set had to be at least six feet long, and the blue ray movies we watched were of such excellent quality, it was amazing. It's hard to compare the experience to being in the theatre to watch a movie because of the really big screens at movie theatres, but the blue ray movies come a very close second to the theater experience.
Blue ray movies employ a different printing technology that increases the density of the play back on HDTVs. The technology was designed to make watching DVDs on the high definition televisions sets a richer experience, and blue ray movies live up to the hype. The colors were incredible, the sharpness was amazing, and the sound was excellent. Of course the audio playback depends a great deal on the home entertainment sound system employed, but none of us had any complaints. Since all television will be in digital format in 2009, I believe I will hold off all my DVD purchases this year, and save my money for a new entertainment system that I will buy toward the end of the year.
